Following the announcement that F1’s Fernando Alonso will be competing in the 101st Indianapolis 500, here are some other famous Spaniards we’d enjoy seeing Memorial Day weekend.

Topping the list is the lovely and talented Penelope Cruz, for obvious reasons. She’d add some real old world style to a distinctly new world event.

Who knew Elsa Pataky was Spanish? Or an actress? We kid. But the Fast and Furious 6 star would seem a natural fit for the 500.

Actress Eva Longoria sure looks pleasing on television and already enjoys ties with broadcast partner ABC. Or so we gather – we don’t watch the network other than racing.

J-Lo of course makes a gorgeous addition to any soiree, much less a gathering of three hundred thousand race fans at IMS.

Finally and fittingly, Javier Bardem who made his mark in No Country For Old Men. Just seeing him stalking Gasoline Alley would add a certain extra element of danger to the festivities.

Sergio Leone’s so called Spaghetti westerns – filmed it Spain – don’t count, do they?
