Former F1 driver Mark Webber is “ok” according to team communications after a fiery crash in the World Endurance Championship at Interlagos, Sao Paulo, Brazil on Monday. The nine time F1 winner’s Porsche 919 slammed into the wall during the race, the Daily Mail reports, resulting in a frightening scene. The team’s good health assurances appear to have been premature.

The thirty eight year old Australian gave a thumbs up from the stretcher after the devastating impact as he was being taken to the medical facilities by the safety crew. By all accounts he’s very fortunate to have escaped the violent collision without serious injury, although he is recovering in the hospital. Having suffered from bad luck throughout his career, it’s nice to see Webber have some good fortune for a change. We wish the Aussie a speedy recovery.
